For this project, my inspiration comes from cultural art, with a particular focus on the work of the Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi, which bridges Dutch culture with Chinese influences. I have designed a fictional menswear collection for the couture house Balenciaga with the goal of telling stories, promoting unity, celebrating cultural differences, and highlighting traditional material manipulation techniques in a contemporary way.
By manipulating the fabric with hand-sewn thread stitches, I crafted a beautifully draped garment that reflects Dutch history.
This print is also a key aspect of the collection. It is inspired by Chinese calligraphy and created using screen printing on the fabric.
I had the opportunity to experiment with various fabric manipulation techniques and create interesting shapes from the fabric.
